COMMISSIONS

I will get back to you within three business days with a price quote and my current lead time.

If you decide to proceed (yay!) I will put together a contract for us both to sign. There is a 50% non-refundable deposit, with the rest due upon completion. (I have never had anyone refuse their painting when it was done, but if that were to happen - your 50% deposit can be applied to any original art on my website.)

Your painting will take somewhere between 4-8 weeks to be completed. In many cases I actually paint two paintings to your specifications, and you get to choose your favorite. This takes a LOT of pressure off of me, and most clients love having the choice. When I feel your painting is about 90% done I will email you some photos. You provide any feedback on changes you'd like to make. Anything from “I’d like more blue” to “This feels too messy” to “I love it except for that one shape that reminds me of a duck” is valid. I will make any requested changes and present it to you for final approval. After that I will varnish, sign, and add hanging hardware. Unless we agree to something else, all commissions are painted on 1.5” gallery wrapped canvas and come in a very simple raw maple strip frame.

Please let me know if you have any questions about my commission process. I'd love to hear from you

I accept a limited number of commissions each year! Commissions timelines are always subject to my schedule, so a few months notice is always appreciated.  Get in touch for more details.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:

Step 1:  THE EMAIL/INITIAL DETAILS

First, please send me a quick email using the form on my contact page. You can use the questions below to help me get a quick understanding of your needs.

What size painting do you need?

Are you on a deadline?

Delivery zip code?

Where did you find me?

Favorite painting of mine?

  • Have a price range in mind, and using that I will give you options for your commission based on the following specifications:

    • Substrate material:

      • Stretched canvas (ready to hang)

      • Watercolor paper (ready to mat and frame)

      • Nontraditional substrates

    • Size

    • Shipping costs.

  • I ship paintings up to 48” x 48” via UPS. Anything larger than that has to be sent via an art shipping service. The cost to get a very large painting across the US can be up to $700 or more, and can take several weeks depending on the art courier’s schedule. I will let you know the shipping fees before drawing up your contract.  Some of the nontraditional materials that I use can be used in larger works  with a few size limitations,  and I can  ship them rolled in a tube to your local framer, who can then stretch them onto bars for you to hang or frame as you like, or you could have a nontraditional approach to hanging the artwork

    • List 2-4 colors you would definitely like to see in the painting and 2-4 that you would like to omit (If any) Feel free to use a Pinterest board for color inspiration.

    • OR, name one of my  works you love, and I can create one that is in similar*

    • If you want to give me free rein, that works too

    STEP 2: The Process

  • I often ask for a focal point , which could be  an idea that you have or something that inspires you,  it could be a poem  poem, a song, a story, or that is meaningful to you. These things give me layers of meaning to work from and help me to create work that is deeper and more personal for you.

  • I  will take the above info and begin to make stylistic and aesthetic choices based on my style and creative process. I will send an email with a game plan or confirmation of details for your approval.

  • I will send you an invoice for the deposit - 50% of the total. When this has been paid I will get you on the calendar and give you an estimated timeline. I can only take a limited number of commission orders a month so be sure to contact me for an estimated start date if you have firm deadlines.

Step 3: The painting.

  • I will work on the piece for up to 8 weeks. Upon completion I will send you photos of your lovely custom painting or you are welcome to come see it in person at the studio if you are local. At times I will send progress photos to ask for input or to get approval.

If exact copies of abstract pieces are impossible, unless they are giclee prints. I can create pieces that are very very similar, but my original paintings are so layered and there are elements that are not possible to reproduce exactly.

PAYMENT
My pricing varies based on size and materials. I will send you an itemized invoice that breaks down this pricing.

I will email you an invoice that you can pay online via Paypal. A 50% deposit will be due upon agreement, and the final 50% payment will be due after approval, before the painting is shipped. Note: if you live in  Missouri, sales tax will be added.

SHIPPING
Shipping will be billed upon receipt via online invoice, or you are welcome to pick up the painting if you are local. Note: any painting over 36"x48" is very difficult to ship economically.

RETURNS
All sales are final. Artwork is insured during shipping. In the event that item(s) arrive damaged beyond repair, please do your best to document everything with photographs. We will work together toward a resolution to replace or repair the work.
